Yesterday, in a misty dripping piece of woods I caught this photo of a spider web. It looks so happy in a funny sort of classic storybook way.

And just so you don’t think I’m immune to flowers, I thought I should put in this one of the fawn lilies. Today I saw fawn lilies, trillium, ladies slipper, hound’s tongue, camas lily, native buttercup, twin flower and one more I’ve forgotten, so it really is spring even if it is rainy.

I’m also adding a couple more photos of reflections from the other day that I cropped a little.

Lately I’ve been taking lots of photographs of reflections in/on water. I have to say some of them have been really beautiful and I intend to use them in my paintings. In the meantime I’ll post them here.

spring green but not leaves

The light has changed to reflect the change of season but the leaves have yet to appear on the trees. This is the season of luscious green moss. Now we can actually see the moss that grew all winter instead of just feeling its presence.

Bad art in Portland

Alright, I titled this post Bad Art in Portland so let’s start there. We were walking around Portland’s Pearl District at night last weekend and there was some art in the windows that rivaled what I call “cringe-worthy” art here in Eugene. We had gone to see the film Gerhard Richter Paintingwhich was really interesting. I particularly liked that there was plenty of time dedicated to watching him paint. We were feeling quite visually satiated until we came upon the window displays which made me feel sick to my stomach. As a remedy we went to the top floor of Powell’s Books to look at art books. Restored by the painting cure.
As if glass frogs weren’t enough we came across this bronze bambi, such an innocent rounded cartoonish form, and the lovely landscape behind. Help! Who buys this stuff?

Swinging into the new age, there was a whole storefront devoted to this guru, the dvd of him talking running on in a silence as the store was closed. Somehow it struck me as being quite amusing. Does he look like someone you could trust? I particularly liked that he appears to be wearing only a large scarf.

I went cross country skiing near Mt. Bachelor and was captivated by the little swathe of blue sky.
White-gray sky, white-gray snow, pierced by sentinel trees.

This week has been hard but the sun is out.
My bees are flying, some even bringing in pollen.
The peach tree buds are swelling.
It isn’t dark until 5:30 or so.
