Joshua Tree Blue
Joshua Tree in Blue, is a body of work that grew from my time as Artist in Residence for Joshua Tree National Park, in California. In my work as a whole I am interested in time and visual expressions of temporality, which means I am engaged in the challenge of visually expressing a range of phenomena that encompass past, present and future, as well as our sense of how to define existence. It is within that spirit that I chose to print these images as cyanotypes for the time-bending mixture of using digital technology for the capture while the print was made using a very early photographic printing process. During my stay in Joshua Tree I started with grand vistas, that present themselves as timeless images of nature. They harken back to the early days of photography and almost to etchings of the 17th century. The details, in contrast, are clearly modern in aesthetic and yet by being cyanotypes they make us question our eyes and sense of time.
